There’s a different feeling when you take your child to see a pediatric specialist like Doctor Matney. There are many walk-in clinics and even hospitals where your child will only see either a nurse practitioner or physician’s assistant, or even a regular doctor who does not specialize in babies and children. At Matney Pediatrics, you see Dr. Matney every time. He is still practicing solo, and his staff members have been with him for many, many years. You will know the feeling that you are in a very professional, yet warm and kid-friendly environment where you and your child are in very good hands. Many young mothers and fathers, including first-time and even still-expecting moms, can rely on the full-service care and attention they receive from Dr. Matney and his caring, dedicated and professional staff.
A board-certified pediatrician who specializes in baby development, toddler development and child development, Dr. Matney has great experience and expertise in diagnosing and treating attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADD or ADHD treatment), and also children with autism and autistic spectrum disorder, and other developmental disorders and learning disabilities.
He still attends his own sick patients in the hospital and he provides newborn care at both St. Mary Medical Center in Apple Valley, and at Victor Valley Global Medical Center in Victorville. A graduate of Loma Linda University School of Medicine, and trained in his general pediatric residency at Loma Linda University Children’s Hospital, Dr. Matney has not yet given up on the ideal of a privately owned, full-service, solo pediatric medical practice.
When it comes to controversial topics like baby shots, or newborn male circumcision, Dr. Matney will answer all your questions and give you the latest information on all vaccinations and immunizations for children and teens, and he will help you make sure your child is properly protected from these deadly illnesses.
The same thing goes for newborn male circumcision. Dr. Matney will be glad to explain the risks and benefits of the personal choice of a circumcision procedure, and he will answer any of your questions about the pros and cons of either doing the procedure, or else not doing it at all. The topic is sometimes controversial, with a few strong opinions out there on both sides, but Dr. Matney believes every parent should be able to make the decision for themselves, based on all the up-to-date information available, and what is best for their own boy and consistent with their personal and family or religious beliefs. The procedure is done right there in his office, and parents or grandparents are invited to observe — or not, depending on their wishes. He uses a local anesthetic injection to make the baby more comfortable, and parents are carefully instructed in care and follow-up. Dr. Matney has performed many thousands of these procedures and he can also perform circumcisions on slightly older babies, and even small toddlers, up to a certain point — but as those are only done on a case-by-case basis, you will need to see him personally to discuss that option.
