Vaccinations

Vaccinations | Dr. Matney Apple Valley, Hesperia, Victorville Pediatrics

Dr. Matney follows all the latest up-to-date guidelines from the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP), the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), and the California Department of Public Health regarding immunizations and vaccinations for babies and children. They include, but are not limited to, routine shots for kids, immunizations and vaccinations against:

  • Hepatitis A and B
  • Rotavirus
  • DTaP and TdaP for diphtheria, tetanus and pertussis (whooping cough)
  • HPV (Gardasil for human papillomavirus)
  • Varicella zoster (chickenpox)
  • Influenza (flu shot or Flumist nasal spray)
  • Meningitis (3 different types)
  • Polio (IPV)
  • Measles, mumps, and rubella (MMR)

Almost nothing else in medicine receives as much constant and careful scientific scrutiny and governmental inspections for safety as do all vaccinations for children, and they are safer now than they have ever been, and they prevent even more diseases that can actually kill children than ever before. So now, as never before, it is crucially important to make sure your baby is up-to-date on shots.

Making sure you baby and your children have all their proper and up-to-date child vaccinations, and at the right timing on a scientifically proven schedule, prevents:

  • Whooping cough (rapidly on the rise, and can be deadly in babies)
  • Tetanus (can occur from ordinary childhood cuts and wounds)
  • Diphtheria and polio (rare in this county but can arrive from the third world on a plane any time)
  • Three types of bacterial meningitis: pneumococcal, haemophilus influenza, and meningococcal (these severe brain and spinal cord infections can easily kill, or leave severe brain damage)
  • Rotavirus (a very severe diarrhea which can cause dehydration, shock, and death in babies)
  • Measles (a frequently fatal disease, transmitted as easily as a head cold)
  • Mumps (usually not fatal, but can cause sterility in men)
  • Rubella (usually not fatal, but if transmitted to a pregnant woman, can cause severe birth defects)
  • Chickenpox (not benign, can cause brain injury or even death, and shingles on-and-off for life)
  • Hepatitis B (can be fatal from liver disease or cancer)
  • Hepatitis A (bad hand-washing and feces-contaminated crops cause outbreaks of serious illness)
  • Human papilloma virus (HPV) causes cervical cancer, abnormal pap smears and genital warts
  • Influenza (the flu) kills 36,000 and hospitalizes 200,000 every year; small children hit hardest

Dr. Matney’s office provides all child vaccinations and immunizations for children (baby shots) throughout Adelanto, Apple Valley, Barstow, Victorville, Hesperia and Phelan. He will be happy to discuss your concerns and answer all your questions so you can make the best choices for your child’s long-term health, and prevention of diseases and safety through proper vaccinations for children.
