One of the most exciting times of your life is when you learn you are going to be a new mom or dad, especially the very first time around. You will likely have many questions and concerns, and you will need a friendly, patient, attentive pediatrician who is willing to take his time in discussing your needs to answer your baby development questions and to provide education about baby shots and other child health issues.
That’s why so many experienced parents, as well as new moms, dads, and grandparents choose pediatric doctor Glenn P. Matney, MD, at Matney Pediatrics in Victorville. Dr. Matney takes valuable extra time with you, including free “get to know the doctor” or “meet the doctor” visits during your pregnancy. His mission is to make you feel confident that your newborn baby will be well cared-for from the hospital to the medical office and all the well-baby visits to come.
Your baby won’t come with an owner’s manual, so to make your life a little easier, the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) recommends that your newborn sees a pediatrician regularly for a healthy start in life. Even if your child is in good health, follow these AAP guidelines for preventive health visits:
- First visit 1 to 3 days after baby arrives home
- Second visit 2 weeks later
- Regular visits after months 1, 2, 4, 6, 9, 12, 15, 18 & 24 months
- Annual checkups from age 2 through 18
In addition to ensuring your newborn’s optimal health, these frequent visits allow you to receive education and information about proper newborn care. As your child development specialist, Dr. Matney will gladly answer all of your questions and give you the guidance you need on healthy baby development, safe sleeping, breastfeeding, and proper feeding and nutrition. He’ll be glad to discuss the sometimes controversial topics of baby shots and other immunizations and newborn male circumcision. Dr. Matney will be happy to share his up-to-date knowledge of all the current best practices of pediatric medicine, along with some old-school tricks of the trade and his many years of experience and common sense.
