Pediatric care services are not just for babies and young children. Pediatric doctors also specialize in delivering comprehensive health care to teenagers. Teenagers can have special medical needs and emotional stresses that require the help of an experienced pediatrician.
The years from age 13 to 18 bring rapid growth, dramatic physical and hormonal changes and new challenges. It can also be a difficult period because teens and parents are pulled in so many different directions. If you are the parent of a teenager, Dr. Matney will help you and your teen face those challenges together in order to grow and develop into mature, healthy, happy and productive adults, and to practice healthy behaviors and positive lifestyles.
In addition to general primary health care for routine health issues and health problems, Dr. Matney’s adolescent practice and teenage medical services include:
- ADD and ADHD diagnosis and treatment
- Acne and other skin problem treatments
- Middle school, high school, and college immunizations to protect against diseases
- School physicals and sports physicals
- Sports injury treatment
- College physicals and employment physicals
For teenager and parental concerns about problems with alcohol, smoking, marijuana, illegal drugs, and prescription pill and opiate or heroin abuse, Dr. Matney can provide screening and brief interventions and then make referrals to appropriate treatment providers for problems with drugs and alcohol.
Dr. Matney is also very experienced in dealing with various teenage mental health problems, such as anxiety, depression, bullying, cutting, eating disorders, and the PTSD effects of childhood abuse and of domestic violence survival. He can also refer patients to appropriate resources for birth control and pregnancy prevention, as well as diagnosis and treatment for any STDs, and make referrals to appropriate prenatal care providers for any teenage pregnancy.
